Core subjects (taken by all students):

  • English Language
  • English Literature
  • Mathematics
  • Dual or Triple award Science

Optional Subjects:

  • Classical Civilisation

  • Statistics
  • Drama
  • Design Technology: Product Design

Class sizes vary from about 8 – 20, according to the subject options taken. Mathematics continues to be taught in ability groups. English may also be set by ability, where it is educationally advantageous.

The Performing Arts of Music and Drama are an important part of life at Beechwood. More than half the students have extra lessons in singing or instrumental music and opportunities to perform are wide and varied. Students of all ages and abilities are encouraged to take part in a variety of dramatic activities and Theatre Studies is a popular and successful choice for many students both at GCSE and A-level.
