Outstanding Location

Beechwood is a fully co-educational day and boarding school situated in a large campus overlooking open countryside. Situated on the edge of the historic town of Tunbridge Wells, just a 10-15 minute walk from the campus. The school is within easy reach of London, less than an hour by train with Heathrow and Gatwick Airports along with the Channel Tunnel all both within an hour’s drive.

Boarding at Beechwood

We continually improve and refurbish our boarding houses which are comfortable with modern accommodation. Since 1915, Beechwood has been a popular boarding school for girls; in September 2014, Beechwood opened new accommodation for boys in a separate wing of the main school. Students always comment on our welcoming atmosphere and how easy it is to settle in and make friends at Beechwood. Boarders enjoy a full activities programme after school and at weekends.

“Boarders are happy, confident and articulate. They have very positive attitudes to boarding life and appreciate the opportunity for independence that it offers.”

Focus on Excellence

At Beechwood, we believe in excellence in teaching. In our small classes we provide teaching that facilitates learning and inspires our students to explore new ideas so that they achieve their full potential. A cognitive development programme focuses on higher-order thinking skills, encouraging independent thinking, a more positive approach to problem-solving and better habits of learning – essential skills for university and success in the world of work. Students in the Sixth Form enjoy access to a wide range of academic courses.

High academic standards

Beechwood offers a broad curriculum to GCSE and 23 subjects at A-Level. Small classes mean that teachers know their students well; they support those that need help, and challenge the most able, to ensure that all achieve their full potential. Academic results are consistently high with Beechwood placed in the top 10% schools in England for A-Level university points. We both encourage and support our A-Level students with their UCAS applications which is extremely important for our international community who are often far from home.

Sixth form pupils are encouraged and supported through a extensive UCAS programme which includes an intensive day and follow-up sessions on writing an outstanding personal statement, identifying suitable courses of study for the individual, the application process, and guidance on selecting both firm and insurance offers. The success of this programme can be seen through the high number of unconditional offers our pupils receive, and the varied and inspirational courses and destinations that are taken up.

“The quality of pupils’ learning is high, and is very much helped by the excellent relationships established between staff and pupils.”
